I am very excited to share that Being In A Film, a documentary by Josepha Groner, will be screened at the Mad in Norway International Film Festival in Lillehammer this September.

The film is an intimate portrait of me and looks back on a period of my life in New York City when my experiences were framed through psychiatric diagnosis and treatment. I speak about some of the profound ruptures of that time, including being committed to a psychiatric institution against my will.

Today, I live in Berlin and look at these experiences from my present-day perspective. The film follows my search for new ways of understanding a life beyond diagnostic categories, and what it means to reclaim the right to tell my own story.

That search has also found expression in RECASAS, the space I am creating for reading, writing and collective exchange outside clinical frameworks.

Josepha began filming me in Berlin in 2024. When I finally saw the finished film, I was deeply moved. The simplest way I could describe what I felt was this:

My story had been told with love.

In September, Being In A Film will be shown at the Mad in Norway International Film Festival in Lillehammer, and I will be there for the screening.

Screening: Friday, 25 September 2026, 9:30 a.m.
Lillehammer, Norway

With my project RECASAS, I aim to create spaces—outside of the medical model—where people can share and explore their stories, including the difficult ones, through art, music, theatre, storytelling, literature, writing, and cooking.
These are spaces where emotional expression is welcome and not pathologized, while leaving room for many voices. Within them, we also reflect on how social norms, power structures, and language shape emotional distress, and how we can unlearn limiting narratives and reclaim our own voices and stories, collectively and creatively.

I am currently looking for people—based anywhere in the world—who can imagine taking on shared responsibility as Gesellschafterinnen (shareholders) of RECASAS. If this resonates with you, or if you know someone who might be a good fit, I would be glad to hear from you.
