I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be performing my very first text at a Poetry Slam with the Kiezpoeten in Berlin! This marks a significant step in sharing my creative voice and engaging with a vibrant community of storytellers and listeners.

🗓 Date: Saturday, January  11, 2025
📍 Location: Kulturhaus Spandau, Theatersaal
⏰ Time: 8:00 – 10:30 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased here

Here’s how the organizers describe it:
*”Just a stone’s throw from Spandau Station, the Kiezpoeten present the Poetry Slam Spandau. The best poetry slam in Spandau. The only poetry slam in Spandau. In the theater hall of Kulturhaus Spandau, experienced word artists with self-written texts enter a highly entertaining competition against brave neighbors ready to perform.

The rules are always the same: everything must be self-written, no costumes or props, no singing! The audience decides who wins the evening.

Welcome to the most Spandau-style poetry slam in the world.”*

For my part, I’ll be presenting a text that explores how we frame human experiences, challenging notions of illness and celebrating the raw, beautiful messiness of life. Expect poetic reflections on resilience, community, and the healing power of creativity.

With my project RECASAS, I aim to create spaces—outside of the medical model—where people can share and explore their stories, including the difficult ones, through art, music, theatre, storytelling, literature, writing, and cooking.
These are spaces where emotional expression is welcome and not pathologized, while leaving room for many voices. Within them, we also reflect on how social norms, power structures, and language shape emotional distress, and how we can unlearn limiting narratives and reclaim our own voices and stories, collectively and creatively.

I am currently looking for people—based anywhere in the world—who can imagine taking on shared responsibility as Gesellschafterinnen (shareholders) of RECASAS. If this resonates with you, or if you know someone who might be a good fit, I would be glad to hear from you.
